CONTENT:       #MERICA!
PROGRAM:      AMERICAN LAGER
ALC./VOL.:      6.0%
SOURCE:         SURLY BREWING CO.
ORIGIN:           MINNEAPOLIS, M.N., U.S.A.

It's a 3-day holiday weekend. You're standing on a boat. Sun glistens off your Top Gun aviators (RIP Goose) as you survey the blue water lightly chopping from tubing, wakeboarding, and whatever that floating banana thing is. You have an ice cold tallboy in hand and one thought in your head: 'merica. Then you look down to the brew in your hand: #MERICA! That's why this beer is a must drink this Fourth of July. In true Surly fashion, Surly Brewing has brought its hallmark cynicism to America's birthday and Surly, we salute you. Brewed in the style of a pre-prohibition American Lager, expect a fresh spin on a sleepy style with an assertive hop profile that you'd expect from the Surly team. Honorable mention to Prairie's 'Merica - you just can't beat a tallboy on the 4th.

CONTENT:       LAGER
PROGRAM:      US LAGER
ALC./VOL.:      4.5%
SOURCE:         D. G. YUENGLING & SON
ORIGIN:           POTTSVILLE, P.A., U.S.A.

Speaking of pre-prohibition, did I mention Yuengling was established in 1829? 1829!?! Charles Carroll of Carrollton (#namegoals), the last surviving signatory of the Declaration of Independence, lived until 1832. THAT MEANS you could be drinking the exact same beer as our founding fathers. Don't overthink it, America. Believe the historical hype. Yuengling Traditional Lager is smooth drinker that couldn't get anymore #truetothebrew. Also, Yuengling has possibly the best beer commercial ever filmed. Ever. Well... I guess the best since 1829. (see what I did there?)

CONTENT:       LIBERTY ALE
PROGRAM:      AMERICAN INDIA PALE ALE
ALC./VOL.:      5.9%
SOURCE:         ANCHOR STEAM BREWING
ORIGIN:           SAN FRANCISCO, C.A., U.S.A.

Just because it's obvious, doesn't make it true. #ASLA was first brewed in 1975 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Paul Revere’s infamous "midnight ride". (Sidebar: rumor has it that Revere is actually the man depicted on the label of Samuel Adam's Boston Lager... #conspiracytheories) Many believe Liberty Ale is the first instance of the modern American IPA, making it a revolutionary brew, brewed for a revolutionary dude. July 4th approved.

7

CONTENT:       GENERAL WASHINGTON'S TAVERN PORTER
PROGRAM:      STRONG PORTER
ALC./VOL.:      7.0%
SOURCE:         YARDS BREWING
ORIGIN:           PHILADELPHIA, P.A., U.S.A.

It's true. Some of our greatest founding fathers were homebrewers. This brew is actually derived from a recipe found in a letter General Washington sent to his officers during the revolutionary war, which probably makes it the most #legit brew on this list... or possibly ever... If this brew caught your attention, I'd suggest picking up the Ales of the Revolution Variety 12-pack from Yards. #plug #hookmeupyards

CONTENT:       BREW FREE! OR DIE
PROGRAM:      AMERICAN INDIA PALE ALE
ALC./VOL.:      7.0%
SOURCE:         21ST AMENDMENT BREWERY
ORIGIN:           SAN FRANCISCO, C.A., U.S.A.

First of all, level 10 name. In four glorious words, this brew sums up everything #america / American craft beer stands for. Literally brought to you by the 21st Amendment, Brew Free! is a super solid American IPA brewed by some super genuine people. In closing, this is the only brew on this list that is Bruce Willis approved. #thereturnofbruno #googleit

CONTENT:       THE PUBLIC
PROGRAM:      AMERICAN PALE ALE
ALC./VOL.:      6.0%
SOURCE:         DC BRAU BREWING
ORIGIN:           WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A.

DC Brau opened in 2011 as the first brewery located within DC city limits since 1956. Since then, DC has developed into one of craft beer's best kept secrets. Their flagship brew, The Public, has rightfully earned it's spot as a pioneer of DC craft beer. Bright and hoppy, this pale is perfectly sessionable. So if you have a day packed full of July 4th BBQs, DC Brau has you covered.

CONTENT:       DALE'S PALE
PROGRAM:      AMERICAN PALE ALE
ALC./VOL.:      6.5%
SOURCE:         OSKAR BLUES BREWERY
ORIGIN:           LONGMONT, C.O., U.S.A.

No specific reason for this one... just kinda makes sense. #americanclassic

3

CONTENT:       LIBERTY LUNCH IPA
PROGRAM:      AMERICAN INDIA PALE ALE
ALC./VOL.:      5.5%
SOURCE:         INDEPENDENCE BREWING
ORIGIN:           AUSTIN, T.X., U.S.A.

Independence Day is the holiday, so Independence Brewing, you're up. Described as "a most crushable IPA" (love it), Liberty Lunch celebrates its namesake, a legendary music venue that helped establish Austin as the "Live Music Capital of the World”. Beer, music, America... it just makes sense. On July 4, fulfill your patriotic duty and support a local legend. For extra credit: support a local brewery.

2

CONTENT:       REVOLUTION
PROGRAM:      US AMBER
ALC./VOL.:      5.6%
SOURCE:         HERITAGE BREWING
ORIGIN:           MANASSAS, V.A., U.S.A.

If this were Martha Stewart's blog, this brew would be #1 - because the artwork would look #totesappropes on your DIY July 4th party table. It makes our list because your summer needs brews like this: a refreshing amber brewed with organic oranges. Also, "toss me another Revolution" is probably the coolest thing you can say on the 4th of July. If fruit beers aren't yo' thing, Heritage has several worthy alternatives brewing year-round, including Freedom Isn't Free IPA and the man, the myth, the legend, The Teddy (East Coast Pale Ale). #ruffryders
